The Securities & Insurance Licensing Association (SILA) is an industry association created for the purpose of communication and education for licensing and education experts whose occupations encompass all areas of licensing and registration. SILA was established in 1990 to bring together licensing experts.

Welcome to 2009! As we all do when entering a new year, we reflect on where we’ve been, our accomplishments and what we need to change. SILA made historic strides in 2008 and became its own independent association with direction and oversight by a 15-member Board of Directors representing both industry and regulators. SILA received notification by the IRS on Christmas Eve that it received approval as a not-for-profit 501(c)6 organization. This was great news to begin the New Year!
In 2009, SILA will expand and refine many of its programs. One of the programs immediately targeted is its Designation and Training Certification program. We will be refreshing, replacing and strengthening SILA’s course content through utilizing a new course provider. This upgrade is targeted for completion by July 1, 2009. Another area targeted for improvement is to increase the communication of information relative to the insurance licensing and securities registration industries. We will better utilize the Discussion Forums and look at ways to enhance education and information updates through various media such as webinars, email blasts, newsletters, etc.
SILA is only successful through its members’ involvement. We will be promoting volunteer opportunities in 2009. Some immediate activities where SILA would benefit from member participation include course content review, start SILA chapters in your geographic area, provide educational articles or presentations that benefit SILA’s membership, and volunteer at the national conference to speak, moderate or assist with registration and meeting room setup. We also want your input on the national conference topics as its planning and preparation work is now beginning. Let us know if you are willing to share your time, talents and expertise..jpg)
We will be celebrating SILA’s 20th anniversary at the national conference on October 24-28, 2009 in Phoenix, Arizona. The theme for this year is Past Forward, Vision for the Future. SILA’s past is strongly rooted in education, membership and regulator support, and peer networking. Combining the strengths of SILA’s past with its vision and commitment to build and improve upon its membership programs makes an exciting future for SILA. Be sure to be an active part of this growing organization!
