The SILA Associate (SILA-A) designation consists of four parts, offering various qualifications to satisfy the basic professional and technical requirements. The four parts of the SILA Associate designation program are:

Course Requirement

The Required Courses are organized by Insurance and Securities Tracks. Selection of the three required courses can be made from both Tracks if your interests encompass both Insurance and Securities functions.

1. SILA Insurance Law

AND

2. SILA Ethics for Professionals

AND

3. SILA Producer Licensing Basics

OR

SILA Adjuster Licensing Basics

OR

Surplus Lines Fundamentals *

1. Anti-Money Laundering Overview

2. Protecting Client Information

3. Securities Basics (classroom or online course)

  • *Note - classroom courses are offered before the SILA National Education Conference
  • Discontinued required courses: SILA Insurance Principles and SILA Ethics started before April 6, 2015 are eligible for requirement

  • Discontinued elective courses: Communication Skills and Delivering Quality Service started before April 6, 2015 are eligible for requirement. SILA Goal Setting and SILA Leadership are discontinued as of 04/2017

The SILA Foundation is administering all course work, purchases and access through its website. 

Membership Requirement
Complete by being a dues-paying SILA Member for one(1) year.
Meeting Requirement
Complete requirement by attending four(4) approved Chapter Meetings (including approved SILA Foundation live webinars), OR one(1) SILA National Education Conference.
Employment/Experience Requirement
Complete requirement by submitting a letter from your employer documenting employment in licensing and registration administration, compliance, contracts & compensation, registration, continuing education tracking, education course approvals, publishing, testing and regulation that covers a minimum of two(2) years.
